How To Bathe Your Newborn Baby

Bathing a baby at bedtime can relax the baby and help lead to sleep. It is a wonderful time for you to connect with your baby. In this article; I want to share the basic tips on how to bathe your baby.

First of all, you need to know that newborns only need two or three times bath in a week. Bathing your baby daily can cause their new skin to dry out.

1. Get everything you need ready before you start the bath, so you do not have to leave your baby. These are what you need: a clean washcloth, baby soap, baby shampoo, towels, and a bathtub filled with warm water.

2. Be sure the room is warm enough. You can use your elbow or a bath thermometer to test the water. It should be comfortably warm, not too hot, or too cold. Do not add soap to the water, since it can dry the baby skin.

3. Now carefully bring the baby to the bath place. Lower your baby up to the chest into the tub slowly.

4. Take the baby clothes off.

4. Wash the baby face with water only. Gently wipe the baby all over. Wash the arms, legs, back, and neck with soap and water. To wash the diaper area for the girls, wash front to back.

5. Wet the baby head to wash the hair and scalp. Add soap or baby shampoo to the washcloth, apply it to the head. You can do this only once or twice a week.

6. Rinse the washcloth and rinse the baby off. Start with the face, and do the diaper area last. Place the baby in the bathtub. Wrap her in a towel, and pat her dry. Put a clean diaper. Make sure to completely dry the diaper area before putting on a diaper. Dress the baby. Brush her hair.

Some important advice you need to know.

1. If this is your first time to bathe your baby, it is better to ask your husband or a partner to secure the process of bathing.

2. Never leave your baby alone in the water for any amount of time, even for few seconds. This short time is when accidents happen. If you have to answer the phone or doorbell, wrap the baby in a towel and take her with you.

3. While bathing your baby try to talk with your baby, and build interaction. Your baby will enjoy the bath time if you enjoy it too.
